INFJ type of personality is extremely rare and complex. That’s why it’s hard for others to understand them. Actually, INFJ’s usually have hard time understanding themselves.
INFJ belongs to the types of Myers-Briggs personality types. Myers-Briggs types are considered to be popular categorization of different types of personality.
One reason why INFJ personality type is so hard to be understood is because most of the characteristics appear to be totally contradictory. The inner and outer worlds are in never ending conflict. Sometimes those people have a feeling that they are two different people. It’s very confusing because INFJ people usually don’t know what they want or need.
Below you will read 5 characteristics of INFJ personality type and what makes it so puzzling.
They want to be alone, but still they really want to be with people
Since INFJ’S are introverts, they are mainly focused on their inner life. But, they are also very sensitive, so they are also concentrated on the external world around them too.
This indicates that although they are introverted, they still really need to be surrounded by people and have close bonds with them. The conflict also appears in their need to be private, reserved, but also incredibly sensitive, caring and warm towards other people. This is very difficult for others to understand and they really think that they are playing hot and cold when they are in a relationship. This can also confuse the INFJ. They might spend the whole day alone and then wake up the next day with a desperate need to be surrounded with many people. These changes can confuse the INFJs, making them believe that they have some mood disorder.
They are easy going but perfectionists too
INFJ personality can be both judging and intuitive, two more characteristics that seem to be extremely contradictory. This can indicate that sometimes they are calm and relaxed. People often see them as laid-back and calm persons, but deep inside they are not even close to that. This happens for one reason and that is – they tend to be perfectionists. Their constant need for order and control prevents them from being spontaneous and to follow their intuition. This means that they rebel against all the plans and lists that they’ve made because they think that they impose too rigid order upon themselves.
They are both artistic and rational
INFJs often face up with conflicts between their creative and rational sides. They usually have millions of ideas, but they tend to judge and criticize them long before they had a chance to really develop. That’s why they usually don’t finish what they’ve started. Their sensitiveness doesn’t allow them to share their work with others in case they are criticized for something. Their inner world is expressed by their artistic work. That’s why criticism or judgment seems very personal for them. Consequently, they usually repress their creative nature. This can make them feel extremely unhappy. They feel the need for expressing themselves in a creative way and it seems to them as if they live half a life when they don’t.
They are messy and tidy at the same time
Because of the judging characteristic, they enjoy being in a beautiful surrounding. They really like to organize and arrange things. But, the conflict appears as a result of their desire to be more spontaneous. Often they wish they didn’t impose so rigid rules upon themselves. They also tend to neglect their intuition and make plans and lists only to keep themselves from failure or criticism. Just because of this, although we struggle for tidiness, we almost never achieve it, because the moment it is done, we start to rearrange them and make a huge mess all over again.
They stand up for others and not themselves
INFJ’s will most likely stand up for people who are weaker than themselves. They possess a very strong sense of justice. When they notice something that is not fair, they are as brave as a lions. They would do anything for the justice to prevail. But, they often forget to stand up for themselves. This can be a result of their lack of self-esteem. This can be another reason why they spend most of the time alone – they feel drained by satisfying the needs of other people around them.
