Chlorophyll Water: ‘Health Drink’ for Weight Loss to Cancer Prevention and More

Chlorophyll water is the new Health Drink that is being sold in juice bars. The drink is prepared by infusing chlorophyll supplements in water, and is said to be rich in antioxidants and micronutrients.

Drinking chlorophyll water is the new health trend that looks like it’s here to stay. Here are some of the claimed health benefits of chlorophyll water.

Health Benefits of Chlorophyll:

1. Cancer Prevention

Studies have reported that chlorophyll and liquid chlorophyllin, which is a similar semi-synthetic mixture made in laboratories to be used in supplements, most often called liquid chlorophyll, can bind to potential carcinogens and also interfere with how they are being absorbed within the human gastrointestinal track. This helps stop them from being circulated all through your body and reaching susceptible tissues, such as those within theheart or joints.

Studies conducted by the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University, reported that chlorophyll and chlorophyllin were equally effective at blocking uptake of aflatoxin-B1 in humans, while also decreasing biomarkers of aflatoxin-induced DNA damage. Findings from several other human and animal studies suggest that these effects can help to lower the risk for certain types of cancers, including colon and liver cancer.

As for claims about chlorophyllin reducing bad breath, there’s little evidence to support it.

A study in 2014 that was published in the journal Appetite, said that consumption of chlorophyll resulted in greater weight loss, in over a period of 12 weeks. Also, it is believed to decrease the craving for junk food, and also lower the levels of Low Density Lipoprotein, or bad cholesterol from the blood.

Weight loss benefits of chlorophyll water are shown in a 2013 study, that was published in journal Appetite, that associated the drink to satiety.

5. Wound Healing Properties

Chlorophyllin seems to slow the rate at which harmful bacteria reproduce, therefore, making it beneficial for preventing infections and wound healing.

Since about the 1940s, cholorphyllin has been added to certain ointments that are being used to heal persistent open wounds in humans, including vascular ulcer and pressure ulcer.

It has been reported to help lower inflammation that were caused by wounds or injuries, promote healing, and even control odors that were caused by bacteria accumulation.
